ACell + PRP Injection Therapy

ACell + PRP Injection Therapy is a new procedure that works to preserve and thicken hair in patients who are genetically predisposed to hair loss. As a non-surgical solution, the ACell + PRP injection procedure is a short 90 minute visit with limited down time. Unlike prescription medications or topical applications that must be used as part of an ongoing daily routine, ACell + PRP Therapy does not require daily maintenance.

What is PRP?

PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, is a concentration derived from your own blood – a rich source of specialized proteins called Growth Factors that stimulate stem cell activity in dormant hair follicles for up to 3-4 months.

What is ACell?

ACell works at the cellular level to repair and remodel damaged tissues. ACell has a broad range of medical and surgical applications, especially in wound healing. This product, also called MatriStem©, is derived from the extracellular matrix of porcine urinary bladder.  When injected into the scalp, ACell is believed to activate dormant follicular stem cells for up to 18-24 months. Note: ACell is not an FDA approved treatment for hair loss.

ACell + PRP Procedures

The process of an ACell + PRP procedure starts with acquiring a blood sample from the patient. Then local anesthetic is applied to the scalp and the injections are administered once the patient is completely numb. The process takes about 90 minutes and recovery is quick, with a sore scalp lasting about 48 hours.

Why ACell + PRP?

Early intervention is best. Men and women over the age of 18 who are early in the progression of their hair loss benefit the most from ACell + PRP therapy. Regular treatments with ACell + PRP keeps more hair on your head by protecting targeted hair follicles from starting the miniaturization process and renewing those that have already started to decline.

Early Intervention with ACell + PRP

ACell + PRP Injections help combat the physical trait of hair loss. This procedure offers an opportunity to do something to slow and even reverse hair thinning before needing to repeat the process or take further steps toward restoration.

The goal with treating genetic hair loss early is to maintain hair for as long as possible, improve density, and keep the results for months and years to come, pushing back against the need for more aggressive solutions until further down the road.

ACell + PRP Results

New hair growth becomes visible in most cases within 4-6 months after ACell + PRP Injection procedure. Hair continues to thicken over a period of 12-15 months. Hair will feel and appear thicker and more dense depending upon the area treated, with results in the hair line typically being more noticeable to patients. These results typically last for 2-3 years, before regression may begin to occur.

Maintaining an active follow-up relationship with Dr. Craig Staebel will ensure an up-to-date Comprehensive Plan to know when it is ideal for another procedure to keep hair growth thriving. Results will be assessed every six months post-procedure, and progress will be tracked annually to determine when a followup procedure may be advised to keep hair growth thriving.

A series of ACell + PRP procedures may be recommended to optimize hair growth, depending on your expectations for results, the nature of your hair loss progression, and your overall response to the treatment. Significant improvement can be seen with just a single treatment.
